WEEKLY GERMAN CLASSES
Weekly German classes are held every Wednesday afternoon and are organized by level. Students are divided into groups of no more than six. Each class lasts 1 hour and 30 minutes.
German is a required subject in Swiss schools. After that, depending on the student’s academic track, German may be chosen as an elective. It can be an asset in providing a wider range of options for post-secondary education.
- In terms of learning: vocabulary that is difficult to master, complex grammar, irregular verbs;
- In terms of meaning: the student can’t understand why they have to learn German; they wonder how it will be useful to them later on;
- In terms of learning methods: the methodology is often inadequate.
Grades are dropping rapidly—first in vocabulary tests, then in assessments covering vocabulary, grammar, listening comprehension, and writing.
Many parents are also unable to help their children because they never learned German if they did not attend public school in Switzerland.
Based on this observation, and in response to numerous requests, we are offering weekly classes for each of the three grade levels in the cycle (9th, 10th, and 11th grades) on
Wednesday afternoons. This allows us to explore the subject in depth and
offer a variety of learning methods.
The curriculum is covered in its entirety. The focus is on learning vocabulary, verb conjugation, and grammar, primarily through exercises.
The connection between vocabulary and grammar is established through regular sentence and text writing. Speaking skills are developed in small pairs based on the topics covered in each unit, as well as through listening and reading exercises.
